Looking out over the ocean, the soft blue sky seamlessly blended with the gentle waves as sea gulls flew overhead. The beach was quiet and the air was filled with a peacefulness that elevated the romance of this special moment.
We did our best to avoid the rain that day, planning the proposal during a small window of light mist. DJ and Margie have actually stayed at the Opal Sands Resort in Clearwater, Florida before, and it just so happened to rain that weekend too. So what seemed to be unfortunate weather actually turned out to be a sweet reminder of time they’ve spent together leading up to this moment.
Hiding behind a small dune, I photographed from a distance as DJ guided Margie out to the beach. DJ brought along a gift for Margie to open which happened to be a photo album of all of their best memories since they’ve met. They looked through the album together with only the sound of the waves crashing over the rocks. As they turned the very last page, DJ got down in the sand on one knee and pulled out a ring from his back pocket.
Margie’s reaction was a sweet combination of surprise and so much excitement. It may have been the rain, but I swear I shed a tear as all this was happening- photographing moments like these are literally my favorite and this one gave me all the feels! We wrapped up the session with some portraits along the beach and they headed out to a special dinner afterwards.
